My Renovated Kitchen
Our 1967’s kitchen was in pretty good shape when we purchased our first home, but I wanted to make it ours (really I wanted to add my personal design touch, and my husband could care less lol). Here are a few before pictures...
I started by having the front three rooms painted in Sherwin Williams’ Snowbound. It’s the perfect creamy white, and also helps our space look bigger than it actually is. I wanted to keep the kitchen neutral, but I din’t want white cabinets. I chose a warm, “lightish” gray color by Valspar named Soulful Gray. It complements the creamy color beautifully.
The next step was changing the kitchen floor. The kitchen is a galley style kitchen, and not extremely large. In an effort to make the space look bigger than it is, I chose a large format tile (a matte marble look porcelain tile) measuring 16x24in. Larger tiles mean less grout lines, and the fewer grout lines you have the bigger the floor looks.
The pendant lights were something that also had to go! Our design style is modern coastal, so when sourcing pendant lights, I wanted to find something unique, but not over the top. I found two perfect Kichler pendants in brushed nickel. I have to admit that I was skeptical when I first opened the box because our kitchen faucet is a polished chrome, and the cabinet hardware is black. Once they were installed I was in love! The light above the sink is also new.
If you follow me on social media, you may remember my poll about the cabinet hardware. I knew I wanted it to be matte black, but I was going back and forth between a cool ,asymmetrical knob option (my husband’s favorite) and a classic, modern pull option (my favorite). I purchased both options and ended up installing the knobs on the top cabinet doors, and the pulls on the bottom doors and drawers.
The final step to complete our kitchen renovation was a new backsplash! I was so thrilled to receive a sponsorship from local vendors DalTile and ProSource. They gave me several options to choose from, but I went with a classic herringbone marble mosaic, Daltile Marble Daphne White. It has great character, and the natural colors and patterns make the stone that more exceptional. It’s the perfect final touch. Be sure to visit daltile.com to view the variety of tile, porcelain, ceramic and natural stone options they have to offer.
